What is SoyCon?

SoyCon is a large social cosplay gathering made by fans for fans who want to come out and have a good time. The gathering mainly focuses on meeting new people. It's also a good way to connect with the community. We have pre-planned events arranged for anyone to participate for whomever is interested, whether if you're in cosplay or just being yourself. You are not required to wear a costume. The only contribution we are asking from you is to come out and enjoy the gathering.

The History of SoyCon

SoyCon was originally named the ACen Aftermath Photoshoot hosted by the Chicagoland Cosplay Club in 2006. The gathering consisted of cosplayers visiting various locations in downtown Chicago such as the Museum Campus and Buckingham Fountain. After a successful photoshoot gathering, it made it's return in 2007 under the leadership of Soy Sauce. With a few minor adjustments on locations, the gathering was again held in Chicago with the addition of visiting The Bean in Millenium Park.

In 2008, the ACen Aftermath Photoshoot was renamed to SoyCon. The name was just something for fun with no intentions of being an actual con. Just to make sure there wasn't any confusion, the subtitle "The Largest Cosplay Gathering of The Midwest" was added. The idea was combining concepts from conventions, meetups, and small events rolled into a now 2-day weekend full of events and fun.

From 2008 to 2011, SoyCon was held on two separate days. the first day was a photoshoot in downtown Chicago, and the second day was a picnic in a picnic grove with numerous events held on the grounds. At SoyCon 3, the event held an optional day where attendees can get a head start meeting many new people at a beach in Chicago.

With every year passing, the attendance has grown to over 300+ attendees. With the increasing number of attendees, SoyCon had to adjust keeping it at a stable location in Rolling Meadows.

SoyCon is looking forward to it's fifth year and hopefully it will provide an amazing time for everyone that attends.
